Danielle & Roo's Halloween Picks

This is a blog post by Verity Mom finalist, Danielle Gahl

For most of us, Halloween wouldn’t be Halloween without trick-or-treating, visits to the pumpkin patch, and haunted houses.  But this year, I think we’re going to try to do things a little differently.

Dance Party!

KEXP is throwing a dance party at the Tractor in Ballard.  The 11am show on Saturday is currently sold out, but there will be some tickets at the door the day of the show.  What better way to introduce your kids to the agony/excitement of waiting in line to listen to awesome music and boogie?

Halloween Yoga

Or we might go the relaxing route.  Lotus Yoga in Columbia City is throwing a costumed family adventure class on Saturday at 1:30pm.  Downward Tiger anyone?

Dia de Muertos

The Seattle Center has a free celebration on Saturday and Sunday with Day of the Dead art, crafts, food and dancing.  We have one Dia de Muertos figure up at our house and it is Roo’s favorite--add music and she will be in paradise.

Pumpkin Bash

What is more fun that watching a hippopotamus smash a pumpkin?  Watching the monkeys smash a pumpkin.  The Woodland Park Zoo is open for their annual extravaganza on Saturday and Sunday at 9:30am.

Trick-or-Treating in Our Neighborhood

I know that a certain neighborhood is giving out full sized candy bars (and no, I will not tell you which one--that is super top secret), but this year we’re going to go door to door in our own neighborhood.  I recently found out that the neighbors on either side of us don’t know each other, even though they’ve lived one house apart for 20 years. Knocking on doors with a cute kid is my way of trying to connect and help build community.  And let’s be honest, the less trick-or-treaters someone gets, the more candy they give out.

Happy Halloween!

Danielle
