A bit about me:

Hi I’m Marie, a six foot tall creative mess maker. I'm a Seattle native and love this city with a passion. My husband Ryan and I welcomed our daughter, Scarlet into the world this past February. Now I have a little side kick to take on the world with me and at the end of every day my cheeks are thoroughly smiled out. Before becoming a stay at home mom I worked as a school assembly presenter creating dynamic “edutainment” for elementary age kiddos. When left to my own devices you’ll find me covered in crafters glue with discarded paint brushes and pencils in my hair (which is most likely in a messy tuft piled high atop my head), my work space completely demolished and I've inevitably glued this to that. Nice to meet you!

My blog post:

Ever since I was little the answer to “What do you want to be when you grow up?” has always been “a mom”. When my dream was about to become a reality I was thrilled! I tried to wrap my head around the huge life change that I was hurdling (giant belly first) into. This was going to be more than just snuggling that new bundle of sweetness. “The Mom Brigade” (as I affectionately called the mothers who seemed to have an unlimited fountain of advice) reminded me daily that life as I knew it was coming to an end. If my mind wandered into happy mommy –la-la-land with thoughts of first giggles and coos, they were right there to snap me back to reality with stories of projectile poop, milk stained shirts and heart rattling cries.

As a first time mom I took on this new title with my pockets full of the wisdom passed on from the mothers that came before me. We’ve all heard it: “Say goodbye to the newlywed life.” “You’ll give your left arm for adult conversation.” “Get ready for the hardest job you’ll ever have.” And the list goes on. I listened intently. They should know right? They were what I was about to become, a mother. I was just hoping to avoid the whole doomsday attitude that seemed to come with it. Never the less I prepared myself. With my hard hat on and my boot straps pulled up, I buckled down. All of a sudden the word “mother” seemed so guttural, like it came with it’s own set of birthing hips.

My due date approached and I made peace with the fact that I was setting down my current lifestyle as young twenty something with time to watch trashy reality TV. I had my battle gear on, ready to deal with sleepless nights, colic and a life in sequester as a stay at home mom.

Now here I sit eight months into my new gig as “mom” and I can happily say that they were wrong! The renamed Old Bitty Brigade aint got nothin’ on motherhood! I’m not a shut in, desperate for adult interaction. I’m a vloggin’ momma who’s in contact with hundreds of moms using social media. I can vlog, blog, skype, chat and access an army of woman any time day or night. I’m not exhausted. I’m inspired! My little lump of sugar gave me a fresh perspective. Creativity and motivation pour out of me just as much as fluids pour out of her. Yes there’s goop and there’s poop but who cares when it’s coming out of something THAT CUTE? Now that I am one of The Mom Brigade I’ve been working on my advice to pass on. I’m going to keep it simple: “Get ready to be blessed beyond anything you can imagine.” The mothers did get one thing right. Life will never be the same, and it&rsqu o;s never ever been better.

Marie
